Privacy policy
Lingua Flow Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-08-19. This policy explains how Lingua Flow handles and protects information when you use the Chrome extension and related online services.
Our approach
We process information for specific purposes and limit it to what is necessary. Everyday translation runs on the device when Chrome's local language resources are available. If those resources fail to download or local translation is unsupported, the extension clearly labels an “online fallback” and sends the current text to the online service.
| Feature | Where it runs | Is text uploaded? |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday translation | Your device first; Lingua Flow online service when local resources are unavailable | No during local translation; yes during a clearly labelled online fallback |
| Detection and speech | Your device | No |
| Precise Translate, Explain, Rewrite | Lingua Flow online service | Yes, only the passage you submit after you click |
| Feedback | Our servers; the support inbox when notifications are enabled | Only the message you write; email is optional |
Information we process
- Device and settings: an anonymous device credential, extension version, platform information, language choices, and feature settings.
- Online feature content: text used for online fallback or deliberately submitted to Precise Translate, Explain, or Rewrite, together with the target language and feature.
- Usage information: feature counts and input/output character counts used to show and enforce the free allowance; these records do not contain readable source text.
- Feedback: the message you choose to send; an email address is optional.
Chrome Sync
When Chrome Sync is available, the extension stores a random recovery credential solely to restore the same anonymous allowance after reinstall. The device secret is not synced, and the recovery credential contains no name, email address, or translation content.
How information is used and shared
Text used for online fallback or submitted to another online feature is received by the Lingua Flow online service. We may use contracted service providers that may process only the information necessary to return the requested result and only under our instructions. When feedback email notifications are enabled, the feedback message and optional email address are sent through a contracted email provider to the publisher's support inbox. We otherwise use information only to provide the service, respond to feedback, maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce allowances. We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or build profiles unrelated to the product.
Retention
We do not store online source text in readable form. Online-fallback source text and results are not written to the database. For Precise Translate, Explain, and Rewrite, a request digest and result are retained for no more than 7 days to support safe retries and prevent duplicate charges. Anonymous device records, monthly counters, and usage records without source text remain until you delete your data. Feedback and an optional email address are retained for no more than 90 days in the database and support inbox.
Security
We use HTTPS, short-lived access tokens, credential digest storage, access controls, and rate limits. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we maintain safeguards appropriate to the information and risks involved.
Your choices and rights
When Chrome's local language resources are available, everyday translation does not upload text. When online fallback is used, the result area clearly says so. Click “Delete my data” at the bottom of the side panel to delete the server-side anonymous account, device credentials, allowance records, and feedback, and to clear the Chrome Sync recovery credential. Uninstalling removes the remaining local data. See Delete data.
Children, changes, and contact
The product is not designed for children. If our practices materially change, we will update this policy and its effective date. For privacy or deletion questions, contact the publisher through the support page. Publisher identity appears on the Chrome Web Store listing.
The use of information received from this extension will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
